The Future Of Digital History Education

The education system has dramatically changed over the last eight months. Now, children are involved in online education because it is unsafe for them to attend schools. The online system is also very new for teachers. Having to plan lessons in a structure that is appealing for online engagement is so much harder than it looks. When students log on they have so many more distractions than in the classroom. They can be closely monitored and checked on in a classroom setting. However, now that everything is done online, it’s hard for them to handle distractions at home. Historians like Shalom Lamm are easter to see how this plays out in history, Many history teachers are having a tough time getting students to connect to items like artifacts. It’s obviously a lot more influential if they get to touch or feel an artifact, rather than see it through a computer screen.

However, for other history teachers and educators, having online school has been positive. Since the majority of the information gathered about history is logged online, it gives children a vast knowledge of certain events that happened. Now, teachers and professors can keep students involved via simulations and videos. Having them do more projects is a way for them to feel more connected with the history, In addition, since children are spending more time at home, it’s easier to involve ancestral history into the circular. Since students are at home with their parents and guardians, it allows history teachers to create projects that resonate around family history. This is a great way to get in touch with their ancestry and the children love learning about a family from way back when.

Overall, teaching history online has been such an endeavor. There are so many ways that history teachers can involve their students in activities that don’t require in-person contact. A lot of history is research, which students have the privilege of doing online. When historians conduct research, it usually is from all different types of places. For example, there are obviously so many websites and domains that are specifically made to creating a fluid presentation of a historic event. Many landmarks have websites that tell the history of people interested that can’t visit. Having children take a virtual tour of a coliseum or a museum is a great way to have them feel more comfortable with learning history online. Historians believe that history is like a jump into the past. It should feel like someone is traveling when they are simply reading or viewing images that correlate to that event or artifact. The world is laced with so much history that it is very possible to make it accommodating for online students. The classroom setting can only offer so much in regards to a pure history experience. Shalom Lamm believed that history professors have a very broad horizon. It can be challenging but also worth the experience children receive. Teachers have to continue giving their students the best holistic experience they can.
