If we’re being honest with ourselves, instead of saying that things are ok when a friend of acquaintance asks how we are doing, we must admit deep down that we all have been struggling in some way to keep it all together during this pandemic that doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. Let’s explore the rise of the ready to drink cocktail.
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that drinking habits have been changing, but on the rise during lockdowns, even when most of us weren’t able to gather in large groups and go down to the local neighborhood bar. Despite some logistical and global supply chain issues, alcohol consumption has been going up. Online alcohol purchases were up 14% from 2019 through 2020, notably women (17%) and millennials and gen X (19%) leading the charge. Instacart, the popular delivery option, reported that orders containing alcohol were up by 75%.
This lead us to the ready to drink cocktail – drinks made for you, some of which have been a delightful, frozen variety. You don’t have to be a home bar tender or have your favorite mixologist make you a drink at the bar anymore.
