Onboarding a New Hire

Onboarding a New Hire

Talent acquisition is a company’s most valuable process. The goal of recruiting is to find the best person for the job while quickly retaining them as members of your team. In this blog post, we will go over the process of onboarding a new hire. Your goal as an employer is to have your employees get up to speed quickly and on the right track.

Here are some tips to follow when onboarding a new hire, according to Jonathan Osler San Francisco.

1. First impressions count

Onboarding occurs at the beginning of the hiring process before interviewing the candidate or conducting a pre-employment test. As part of your interview process, make sure you take some time to evaluate and celebrate your new hire at this stage in their orientation, just as you would for an existing employee. This is a great opportunity to formalize their welcome into the company.

2. Orientation

Give new employees an orientation to help them get acquainted with the workplace and understand what is expected of them. Make the orientation fun, interactive, and engaging by allowing the new hire to choose their activities over an extended period. You want to set up an environment where they can easily ask questions that are important to them; this way, you can personalize their learning experience and give them what they need most at this moment in time.

3. Connect and engage

New hires have to have a positive attitude towards the organization and the company’s goals. Help them connect their role and productivity to the organization’s mission by involving them in creating a vision for how they can contribute to your team and achieve your goals.  Connect them with the existing employees and encourage them to ask questions and learn from the leadership of others. Get employees in the habit of talking to each other; walk around, be engaged and make this an opportunity to communicate with everyone.

4. Show your appreciation

According to Jonathan Osler San Francisco, making a new hire feel important is to show them you value their contribution and want them to feel welcome, appreciated, and respected by other members of your team. Please show your appreciation for their work in front of others when possible, as it will encourage team members to do the same.

5. Get them started

Make sure new hires have a defined work schedule and a supportive community. Be open to their suggestions for tasks that will let them stretch and learn.  Help them transition to their new job by connecting them with people who can help them, either in person or through technology.

7. Training resources

If employees need training or technical support, make sure they are always easy to reach, especially if you will be sending emails or making phone calls at unexpected times. Each member of your team should feel accessible at any time and have the support they need to be successful.

New hires need to get acquainted with the work they are being assigned to do. Educate them on the company’s principles and values and what makes your company unique by having brief conversations about their role and how they can contribute to your goals.
