Father George Rutler wants to emphasize the importance of the Lord’s believers attending church on a regular basis. By doing so, people can further solidify their connection to God. It gives them a chance to say grace, receive communion, and confess their sins. Going to Mass at least once a week is a perfect place for peaceful prayer. With no distractions to falter the practice, it is an ideal place to learn about God’s teachings and share your faith with the other members of the religious community. This article is made to highlight the most important reasons for why members of the Catholic faith should often attend church.
The Eucharist
Each time believers attend a service, they receive the Eurachrist, which resembles the body, blood and soul of Christ. It is one of the most sacred acts of the religion. If people attend Mass every week, they could receive the Eurachrist and become even more connected to God.
Prayer
In His house of worship, it is such a wonderful time for believers to pray to the Lord while having a clear mind. In the outside world, people can get caught up in the stress of everyday life and responsibilities. By removing yourself from that and entering a place that is all about prayer and forgiveness, individuals can communicate with God without any distractions.
Community
When attending church, people are surrounded by friends and family who also worship the same religious beliefs. It gives people a sense of safety and comfort knowing that they have a whole community to turn to when they need it. It also gives believers an opportunity to make new friends.
Sunday Obligation
As stated in the Ten Commandments, which are the laws and morals passed down by God, the Third Commandment is to “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.” The holy day is on Sunday because that is the day Jesus was resurrected from the dead. As a tribute to his sacrifice, worshipers are strongly encouraged to attend Mass every Sunday and pay their respects to the Lord and Jesus Christ.
Father George Rutler has dedicated his entire life to the practices and teachings of Catholicism. He was the youngest Episcopal rector in the country when he headed the Church of the Good Shepherd. He obtained numerous degrees from universities in Europe and the United States. After he completed his studies, Rutler served as an Associate Pastor of St. Joseph’s in Bronxville, Our Lady of Victory down on Wall Street, and St. Agnes in Midtown Manhattan. Cardinal Egan made him pastor of the Church of Our Savior and he eventually went on to be appointed as pastor of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in 2013. To Father Rutler, his life is completely committed to God. He hopes that people share the passion he has to regularly exercise their beliefs.
