There are many definitions of criticism depending on the mode of delivery and the parties involved. Criticism is known to many as the art of passing judgment to other people. Constructive criticism has been used, especially when you want to pass judgment to people but want them to change their behavior. The feedback received from any form of constructive criticism should be deliberate in helping the recipient to change their lives. There are two forms of criticism, destructive and constructive criticism. A destructive criticism does result in behavior change; rather, it is viewed as an insult. Whether positive or negative, the feedback should be tailored towards informing and making the person change his behavior. The Feedback Should be Specific and Straight to the Point

Constructive criticism should be focused on eliciting specific feedback from the recipient. For instance, if the criticism is towards a person working on his weight loss, the message should be received in a way that the person will find quick ways of working on his weight. This can be through going to workouts and changing his diet to lose weight faster.

Focus on the Situation That is Affecting the Person and Not on Personality

More often than not, people confuse insults and constructive criticism. An insult is directed at personality and is a way of downgrading the status or ego of the recipient. Criticism focuses on the situation prevailing in a person’s life and how intended advice can change the way people behave. The end goal of constructive criticism is to change a person’s life by triggering them to act on the message being passed. He adds that people should be criticized in a respectful manner rather than hurting the feelings of people. It is also important to comment on things that can be changed within a reasonable time frame. Other behaviors cannot be changed, however much you try to give constructive criticism. Always stick to positive praises when giving out constructive criticism because this will help in changing the lives of people you are engaging with.
